The Cisco 3600 Series is a family of modular, multiservice access platforms for medium and large-sized offices and smaller Internet Service Providers. With over 70 modular interface options, the Cisco 3600 family provides solutions for data, voice video, hybrid dial access, virtual private networks (VPNs), and multiprotocol data routing. The high-performance, modular architecture protects customers' investment in network technology and integrates the functions of several devices into a single, manageable solution.
Cisco extended the successful Cisco 3600 Series with the Cisco 3660 multiservice access platform. The Cisco 3660 provides higher densities, greater performance, and more expansion capabilities. The additional power and performance of the Cisco 3660 platform enables new applications, such as packetized voice aggregation and branch office ATM access ranging from T1/E1 IMA to OC-3.
The Cisco 2600 and 3600 series of multiservice platforms has been greatly enhanced with many voice capabilities: added support for Voice over Frame relay (VoFR) and Voice over ATM (VoATM-AALS) on the digital voice interfaces (T1 and E1). QSIG is also now supported on all digital interfaces, including T1/E1 and BRI. Other enhancements include Off Premise Extension (OPX), VoIP over Frame Relay, and enhanced queueing functionality. In addition, a feature that works with an upcoming version of Call Manager softwars makes these products perfect gateways for the PBX and PSTN for IP telephony, enabling applications like call transfers, holds, and conferencing

Catalyst 2980G and 2980G-A Switches
Cisco introduces the Catalyst 2980G and 2980G-A; the industry's highest density, small form factor fixed configuration Ethernet switches in an extremely compact package. These cost-effective switches were designed to deliver maximum ease of management and configuration for small to medium-sized enterprise wiring. The Catalyst 2980G and 2980G-A provides an efficient, simple, and cost effective method for improving performance and eliminating network congestion with high speed, layer 2 intelligent enterprise switching. The Catalyst 2980G-A now offers an optional external Redundant Power Supply (RPS) to further increase network high availability.
Catalyst 2948G-L3 Switch
The recently announced Catalyst 2948G-L3 offers cost-effective Layer 3 switching alternatives for small/medium enterprise backbones. The Catalyst 2948G-L3 offers 48 ports of 10/100 Ethernet with two Gigabit Ethernet uplinks capable of wire-speed, non-blocking, Layer 3 performance ideal for mid-range backbone frame processing.
Cisco's Catalyst 3000 system is a high-performance, stackable switching platform consisting of the Catalyst 3000 series switches and Catalyst 3000 Matrix.
This switch platform is the first stackable switching architecture to deliver Layer 2 and Layer 3 functions in its stackable software for growing workgroup applications. The flexible design enables additional switching capacity without migrating to a new platform.
High-performance features in the Catalyst 3000 series include adaptive cut-through switching technology with automatic error packet detection and elimination. These capabilities fulfill user requirements for low-latency switching applications while maintaining the data integrity of store-and-forward devices. A built-in redundant power supply provides reliability.
The stackable architecture of the Catalyst 3000 switch series allows it to cost-effectively address a wide spectrum of applications. In smaller configurations, it can switch 16 to 24 Ethernet segments with high-speed uplinks connecting servers and other backbone resources. Stacked switches can be managed as one logical entity IP address, overcoming one of the primary obstacles of managing stackable devices.
Recent WAN support makes the Catalyst 3000 series an ideal branch office solution with high-speed serial and ISDN connectivity between systems in smaller offices, or from branch offices to a Catalyst 5000 switch in the central office.
The Cisco Systems Catalyst 3500 series XL is a scalable line of stackable 10/100 and Gigabit Ethernet switches that deliver premium performance, manageablility, and flexibility, with unparalleled investment protection. This line of low-cost, high-performance switching solutions is ideal for midsized networks deploying Internet business applications such as IP telephony, e-commerce, and ERP. Cisco's latest addition to this family is the Catalyst 3524-PWR series XL featuring integrated inline power for IP telephony
The new 2-port Gigabit GBIC uplink for the Catalyst 5000 family allows voice and other mission critical traffic to be prioritized at the network edge, enabling end-to-end QoS solutions. It has advanced QoS capabilities, including classification, WRED congestion avoidance, and multiqueue scheduling.
The new 24-port 100BASE-FX SMF module provides high density, low cost, extended range connectivity for service providers. The QoS classification and WRED capabilities of this new module allow service providers to deliver differentiated services over the MAN.
Three new line cards for the Catalyst 5000 family incorporate Quality of Service (QoS) classification and Weighted Random Early Detection (WRED) drop-threshold management capabilities. The new modules allow users to classify traffic and also provide preferential treatment for priority traffic via WRED. The line cards are available in a 24-port 10/100 RJ-45 module, a 36-port 10/100 RJ-21 module, and a 24-port MT-RJ 100BASE-FX module.
The series features a Gigabit Ethernet and ATM-ready platform offering users high-speed trunking technologies, including Fast EtherChannel® and OC-12 ATM. The Catalyst 5000 series also features a redundant architecture, dynamic VLANs, complete intranet services support, and media-rate performance with a broad variety of interface modules.
Modules for the Catalyst 5000 family chassis --- Catalyst 5500, 5509, 5505, 5000, and 5002---are designed for complete interoperability and investment protection.
